Last month we took the mentees from the Bounce refugee program on an excursion to the Dandenong Ranges. The goal of this excursion was to allow the newly arrived youth to get engaged with one another, extend their network and get to know more about Melborune. At the same time, it was a great opportunity for the Bounce program to get to know the mentees a little better.
Unfortunately, the infamous unpredictable Melbourne weather provided us with grey skies and rain. However, this did not dampen the fun we had! There was interaction with some local birds like the wild cockatoo and rosella, a walk in a beautiful garden, a tasty BBQ and, most enjoyable of all, singing! We each took turns in singing a traditional song from our own country…boxes of water were suddenly being used as makeshift percussion, we were all clapping and smiling and the rhythm really got everyone loosened up!
We all enjoyed each other’s company from so many different backgrounds regardless of age, language, faith, and the weather we challenged! It was a great day (check out some of the pics below), and we are looking forward to the end of year party with the mentees and mentors!
